“Can you add an essential oil to your water or gem elixir?”
OK Pretties, I often get asked if I put essential oils into my Gem Waters (aka Gem Elixirs), so I’m going to take the opportunity to answer this question here! 🙂
I personally do not, and I HIGHLY recommend against it.
I don’t personally EVER recommend taking essential oils internally, and that’s just my personal policy as a Practitioner.
Quite a few people do take them internally however, so I will leave the decision making up to you and what you feel is right for your body, but please ALWAYS first consult your Medical Dr. or a Licensed Aromatherapist, as the ingestion of essential oils can be very damaging and can even be toxic.
A personal story: About three days in to adding 1 drop of lemon oil to my water for example (against my better judgment), I had a server and painful reaction and had a difficult time breathing for a few days, needing to take Benadryl, antacids, and even used my husbands inhaler, until my body returned to normal. Reactions and complications are actually very common, and trust me, finding out that you have some type of sensitivity by taking oils internally can be a very scary thing to experience, especially if you took the oil internally.
I will personally never ingest essential oils again, and have always ONLY recommend oils on this site that can be successfully and safely used aromatically or topically, without the need to ingest them.
For example: You wont see me promoting any other products from Doterra like their popular supplements, simply because I don’t believe that it is safe for anyone to ingest any type of oil in any amount, without the supervision and direction of a Licensed MD. I LOVE Doterra’s oils and use them EVERY DAY, but this is my personal policy for my Holistic Practice, and I feel that Essential Oil Safety is incredibly important, especially when recommending holistic solutions to my Clients.
Even though I am VERY proud to be associated with Doterra, this is just one additional thing that makes Certified Blossoms United Holistic Practitioners different from product distributors, in my view.
So, Pretty Blossom… When it comes to this question, in my view, the risk outweighs the reward. Please be safe.
